Day of Surgery

Presleigh's surgery was scheduled for 7:30 last Thursday morning (2/17/2011). We had to be at St. Lukes Hospital downtown at 5:30 am. My parents came to stay with us for the weekend so that they could help us out while Pres was recovering. They got into town the night before her big day. We were able to get up and go without having to worry about Noah, which was so nice. I was a little worried about how he would do waking up to grandma and papa instead of his mama, but he was fine.

Everything seemed to go really fast at the hospital. They checked us in, then we were sent to the pediatric surgery center. We waited in the little room and watched cartoons. Poor little Pres had no idea what was going on. We tried to talk to her about it, but all she really got from our conversations with her was that after she saw the doctor she was going to get to have lots of Dora Popsicles.

One of the nurses brought in this oxygen mask with some stickers and told Pres that she could decorate it. The nurse was trying to talk to Presleigh and so she asked where Pres thought that the oxygen mask goes. Then the nurse said, "Do you think it goes here?" and put it on Presleigh's knee. Pres didn't respond and so the nurse kind of gave up. After the nurse left I showed Pres that the mask goes on her face. Then she said to me, "No it doesn't, it goes here." and then put it back onto her knee.

This smile was after she had received her loopy medicine. They gave her some medicine to make it a little easier for her to be wheeled back to surgery without us. She was talking up a storm after this.

She was given a pink little bear and this hospital cap to wear. Now she uses the cap as the bear's bed it is so cute.

Her surgery took like 15 minutes. We didn't have to wait very long at all. The whole time we were in the waiting room I was a nervous wreck. I know that this type of surgery is done a lot on little kids but I was starting to question if it really needed to be done to our little Pres. Then the doctor came to talk to us after the surgery was done and he told us, "Her tonsils were big, but her adenoids were huge." It made me feel so much better. It was a necessary thing, and it will help her.

We were then taken back to see her. Not my favorite moment, but we were happy that we got to be with her so soon. She was pretty out of it at first and kept trying to take her IV out and was itching her sweet little face a lot. She finally calmed down and fell asleep. We had a little scare after she fell asleep where her oxygen levels fell, so they had to blow air in her nose, which woke her up. But she fell back asleep really fast and her oxygen levels were fine. They monitored her for a while but then we were able to take her home.
